SES units from Shellharbour, Coniston, Wollongong and Kiama assisted as the service recorded 170 calls for emergency help across the Illawarra.
Kiama SES volunteers also worked into the night to remove a tree blocking Jamberoo Mountain Road.
Many residents uploaded photos on Facebook, showing flash flooding in suburbs including Windang and Oak Flats.
Meantime, the South Coast Line is partially closed in both directions between Dapto and Dunmore due to flooding at Oak Flats.
A limited bus replacement service is running.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should not drive, ride or walk through flood water, and keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
Scattered thunderstorms are predicted for Tuesday, with rain predicted until at least Saturday.
