Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter has admitted to being concerned about the number of high shots on James Tedesco after three South Sydney players were charged over tackles on the star fullback in last Friday night's spiteful encounter at ANZ Stadium.

Rabbitohs prop George Burgess, second-rower Ben Te'o and centre Bryson Goodwin were all charged with high tackles on Tedesco in the second half of the match, won 25-16 by the Tigers. While Potter does not believe Tedesco was deliberately targeted by Souths players for the rough treatment, he is worried that the high shots may become a trend as opposition teams try to nullify the 21-year-old sensation.

"I suppose they see him as a danger and sometimes it is an accident and sometimes it is not," Potter said. "The circumstances are all different and they all need to be judged on their merits but he is a good player and people are trying to stop him. You would like them to do it legitimately. I don't think he is being targeted to be head-highed, I think people are just having trouble getting hold of him at times. He was all right  from the knocks he took but it is a concerning trend and it is not something I'd like to see happen again."

With referee Matt Cecchin following through on his threat to send a Souths player to the sin bin if the high tackles persisted when he marched Luke Burgess late in the game, Potter said he was happy with the way match officials had handled the issue. He also said the fact Burgess, Te'o and Goodwin were all charged by the match review committee showed the NRL was taking the targeting of Tedesco seriously.

"It is a contact sport and accidents do happen," Potter said. "You saw what happened with Greg Inglis, he was was two foot off the ground when he caught the ball and that is unfortunate but there are others that aren't so like that. On at least two of the three tackles [that attracted judiciary charges] I know we got a penalty but if they see it as a really deliberate act they could take more action. I didn't see any more than a penalty in those incidents but the league and the judiciary are trying to discourage people from hitting other people around the head, which is a good thing. They penalised the player and said if it was a repeat, especially on the same player, they would put someone in the bin, which they did."

Tigers players accused of the Rabbitohs after the game of getting "nasty" when the match was slipping away from them and Tedesco said the Wests forwards had wanted to make a statement by refusing the let their Souths opponents outmuscle them.

"When we were on top, they got a bit angry towards the end there and there were a few high shots," Tedesco said. "Our forwards sort of stuck it to them and they weren't used to that. Everyone talks about their pack and how big they are and our pack is doing awesome."

The NRL match review committee studied more than 30 incidents from the Rabbitohs-Tigers match before deciding to charge Burgess, Te'o, Goodwin and Wests interchange forward James Gavet.

Of the Souths trio, only Burgess needed to succesfully challenge his grade two careless high tackle charge at Wednesday night's judiciary hearing to be able to play in Sunday's match against Canberra at ANZ Stadium.

Te'o, who was charged with a grade one careless high tackle, can escape suspension by pleading guilty, while Goodwin is free to play against the Raiders as his grade one careless high tackle charge is worth just 75 demerit points and he has a clean judiciary record. Gavet will also be cleared to play against the Warriors at Wellington's Westpac Stadium on Saturday night if he pleads guilty to grade one contrary conduct for kneeing Burgess.
