Lake Illawarra police are investigating a spate of fraudulent phone calls where the caller encourages the victims to provide either their internet or bank details.
Sergeant Jason Harrison said police were averaging one report of attempted fraud every 24 to 48 hours.
In one case on Wednesday, a 50-year-old Cringila man provided details which allowed the caller, who claimed to be from Telstra, to access his computer remotely.
A short time later, the National Australia Bank called the man stating that a transfer to a Western Union account had been initiated for a substantial amount of money. The transfer was stopped.
