This year there is an extra reason for the association to smile, with the donation of a new Sandcruiser wheelchair to be based at Seven Mile Beach.

Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) director Jim Bradley said for many people with a disability, a trip to the beach could often land in the "too hard basket".

"The Sandcruiser is an Australian-made chair worth about $4500 and this one was purchased with the money raised by Bill Preston and his crew at the Gerroa Boat Fishermen's Club," Mr Bradley said.

"It will be used by DSA on Sunday, but will be left at the Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park and will be made available to the public."

Mr Bradley said the special chairs were starting to have a recognisable presence on the coast, with 11 now available for public use between Stanwell Park and Gerroa.

He said Gerroa was recognised as the safest location in Australia for DSA surfing activities and more than 250 people took part in last year's hands-on event.

"The day is open to everyone, participants and volunteers alike - it's all about putting smiles on dials safely," he said.

Sign-in is from 9am to 9.30am at Emery Park, which is on the northern side of the Crooked River at Gerroa.
