Wollongong United call for cup clash

FOOTBALL

Dapto Dandaloo Fury and Wollongong United continue their crusades towards an inaugural FFA Cup berth with Waratah Cup fixtures this week.

United meet NSW State League One outfit Dulwich Hill on Tuesday, while the Fury face a tricky game with club team Auburn on Wednesday evening.

The Reds have coasted into their third-round match with 12-0 and 6-0 victories.

But Tuesday's match at Macedonia Park is expected to be a much tougher assignment.

"We don't know too much about the boys from Dulwich Hill this season," United coach Oliver Vrtkovski said.

"They are obviously going to try and play football. They will like to keep the ball at their feet and play a short passing game.

"That sort of football is always difficult to play against because we try and do the same."

Making the match even more difficult for United is the short back-up from Saturday's Illawarra Premier League fixture with Wollongong Olympic.

Vrtkovski's men drew 2-2 in that clash, but he believes his players must now quickly change their focus.

"We focused all week on [the Olympic game] but it is just such a quick turnaround that we now have to focus on the Dulwich Hill game without any preparation time before it," Vrtkovski said.

"The boys are focused and I have got them thinking in that way, so that to me is important that we just think one game at a time."

The first-year coach plans to utilise his deep youth roster to ensure fresh legs take the field against Dulwich Hill.

"We have got the benefit of some great young players coming through our club at the moment," Vrtkovski said.

"We have got some talented boys in our youth team at the moment, so I will be calling on some of those boys to step up on Tuesday."

A win would see the Illawarra Premier League side move into the fourth round of the competition, where NSW National Premier League squads await.

If their Premier League counterparts the Fury can triumph, they will face the Marconi Stallions.
