In a statement the Bureau of Meteorology said a low pressure system developing off the NSW coast near the Victorian border is forecast to deepen and move slowly to the north/northeast on Friday evening.
‘‘The system appears likely to reach peak intensity late tonight or early Saturday, bringing gale force winds to the South Coast,’ the statement said.
‘‘Damaging winds averaging around 65 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are forecast to affect parts of the the South Coast forecast district this evening and early Saturday, more likely along the coastal fringe.’’
There is a marine wind warning for the Illawarra Coastal Waters on Saturday.
The State Emergency Service advises people:
■ Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
■ Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; and
■ Keep clear of fallen power lines.
