Police said the 69-year-old and a 30-year-old man became involved in an incident at Warrawong about 3.15pm.
The 30-year-old told police the older man waved a silver pistol during the argument.
A police patrol stopped the man’s vehicle in First Avenue South.
He denied possessing a firearm but police said they located a replica revolver in the driver’s foot well.
He allegedly told officers: ‘‘It’s not real. It’s not a gun.’’
The replica firearm was seized.
Police say their investigations are continuing.
