Klinger has signed a deal with the Warriors that will see him call the WACA Ground home until the end of the 2015-16 Sheffield Shield season.

Klinger, 33, has been a standout in the Redbacks line-up since switching states from Victoria five seasons ago.

He adds the experience that WA requires with the departure of North, who called it quits after the best domestic season of his career.

WA was outplayed by New South Wales in a rain interrupted Shield final in Canberra last month.

Klinger has claimed South Australia's top honour - the Neil Dansie Medal - three times in those five seasons, while also captaining the side to the 2010-11 Big Bash and 2011-12 Ryobi One Day Cup titles.

He accrued 568 runs at 37.86 in Shield cricket this year, with two centuries that included a classy knock of 213 against Victoria in February.

WACA General Manager of Cricket Operations Ben Oliver said Klinger's experience was an important addition.

"Marcus North's recent retirement created a gap in top-order batting experience and we feel Michael is the perfect person to fill this gap," Oliver said.

"He is a seasoned performer at first-class level and is highly regarded both on and off the field.

"His experience and leadership will be invaluable for the Western Warriors as our younger players develop and as we continue to build a strong and successful culture in WA cricket."
