It's tougher still to keep a championship winning roster together to have a tilt at the title the following year.

So lies the challenge for the Perth Wildcats, who smashed the Adelaide 36ers 93-59 in Game 3 of the Championship Series at Perth Arena on Sunday.

It was a record sixth title win for the Cats.

But NBL rules state that any player out of contract will be allocated a new Player Points Ranking before their new contract is signed.

And each side must keep its Total Team Points to within a cap (70 points).

James Ennis will head back to the US where he will surely be seen in Miami Heat colours in the NBA in the near future.

Its a good thing, because the NBL would probably have had to create a new ceiling for Player Points Ranking for him, as a player's figure is based on their previous season's performance.

And Ennis had an outstanding season.

And while Shawn Redhage, Matt Knight and Greg Hire already have contracts for the 2014-15 season, the Cats will surely have to work hard to keep the remaining members of the championship roster together.

The main targets will be captain Damian Martin, import Jermaine Beal and Jesse Wagstaff.

"I woke up today [Monday] and was hoping there was going to be a text message or a phone call from [general manager] Nick [Marvin], but we'll see how the next couple of weeks go," Martin said, when asked about his future.

"There are a lot of us off contract, so hopefully it unfolds in a way that we can stick together, but with the points system, salary cap, who knows what's going to happen?

"But it's a great bunch of guys and hopefully we can stick together."

Martin said that after five years in Perth, in which he has played in four championship series, he now called it home.

"Yeah, I love Perth and I have made no secret of that. Perth's home now," the New South Welshman said. "I miss my family and friends over on the east coast, but if I can see out the rest of my career in Perth I will be a very happy boy."

Redhage, who top scored for the Cats in the decider with 16 points, said that finishing top of the table and gaining a home court advantage, like the Cats did this season, was a key to ongoing success.

The atmosphere created by a one-sided crowd at Perth Arena also played a massive part.

He said the 36ers quotes in the media that home court advantage meant nothing was far off the mark.

"To rock up to game three after a tough loss in Adelaide in front of 14,000 fans... the 36ers came out in the paper and said home court advantage wouldn't be much of an advantage because we both had to travel. I don't think that was the case considering we had such a great result," he said.

"That home court advantage is so crucial.

"We had a little stretch there in the middle of the season where we lost a few games. Luckily Adelaide lost a couple. But in the forefront of our mind was just trying to get that home court advantage because we knew how crucial it is.

"We experienced it. We had to go to New Zealand for game three [last season] - it's extremely tough. A lot of things have to go your way, and you're battling uphill most of the way.

"The two times we've won it we've had home court advantage."
