Rock band AC/DC to retire: reports
Australian rock band AC/DC is reportedly set to announce its retirement because Malcolm Young, who formed the band with his brother Angus, is ill.
Fairfax Radio reports the band may never perform or record again, but the group hasn’t yet publicly denied the reports.The claims were originally made in an email to Perth radio station 6PR by a person identifying himself as ‘‘Thunderstruck’’.Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told 6PR there’s every indication Thunderstruck’s information is correct.
‘‘I do believe that is correct,’’ he said.‘‘It is a serious situation.‘‘It may be that ... they don’t actually retire as such, they just never perform together again or record again.’’
An official announcement would be made on Tuesday, Fairfax Radio Network’s 3AW reports.
AC/DC was formed by brothers Angus Young, now 59, and his brother Malcolm, who migrated from Scotland to Sydney when they were children, in 1973.
Taylor Swift attends fan’s bridal shower
Music superstar Taylor Swift has surprised a fan by attending their bridal shower over the weekend.
Swift had her management clear her hectic schedule so she could surprise the unsuspecting bride-to-be, who was celebrating her upcoming wedding in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday.
‘‘I had no idea it was going to happen,’’ Gena Gabrielle told the US Today Show.
‘‘(Swift) said she planned it with her management and her mum. Apparently they told Taylor she didn’t have time and she said no I’m going to Ohio I can’t make the wedding and I promised her.’’
Gabrielle shared photos of the Grammy winner’s visit on her Instagram account.
The snaps show the singer posing with the engaged couple and their close friends.
She also took to her Twitter account to thank Swift for attending her party, stating that it made her ‘‘wildest dreams’’ come true.
‘‘She said it was all worth it because my face was priceless,’’ Gena said.‘‘
Taylor didn’t crash the bridal shower she had an invitation. I’m really not that special and I’m still in awe she did this for me.’’
Swift - who made a cameo on Saturday Night Live at the weekend - also brought a gift of a new KitchenAid stand mixer along with a handwritten first recipe for the bride-to-be, even though she didn’t know her personally.
Margot Robbie posts tattoo video online
Australian actress Margot Robbie has shared a video of her painful tattoo session.
The Wolf of Wall Street star had a design inked at a tattoo parlour in south London over the weekend.
The actress was caught on camera grimacing and biting her fist during the session.
Robbie was also seen inking body art for another customer before adding her own video on Instagram with the caption, ‘‘Now my turn... Clapham Ink.’’
The 23-year-old has been filming upcoming sci-fi movie Z for Zachariah this year.
Nicole Kidman loved Canowindra
The NSW country town of Canowindra has received a big stamp of approval from Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman.
Kidman has spent two weeks in the tiny rural town filming the thriller Strangerland.
She posted a photo of the Canowindra welcome sign on Facebook on Monday.
‘‘Absolutely loved Canowindra ... A beautiful town with beautiful people! Nic xx’’ Kidman wrote on Facebook.
It’s understood Kidman stayed locally at a secret location during her stay in Canowindra.
The star will continue filming in the mining city of Broken Hill in the state’s far west.Last month, she was snapped on the set and posing with locals while filming in Western Sydney.
Strangerland co-stars fellow Aussie Hugo Weaving and Joseph Fiennes. It is set for release next year.
Pharrell cries happy tears with Oprah
Video of people dancing to the hit song Happy has brought Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Pharrell Williams to tears.
Williams has had an amazing year so far and was nominated for an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards with his it Happy, which appeared in Despicable Me 2.
In a new interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, the 41-year-old couldn’t contain his emotions.
‘‘I’m so happy,’’ he sobs in a preview for the Prime episode, which will air on Oprah’s OWN network.
The teary moment was brought on when the chat show host showed him a video of people dancing to his Happy tune.
During the preview clip released on Monday, Pharrell also looks on teary eyed as pictures from his childhood are shown, including an adorable snap of the singer as a young boy, sporting an afro and a double denim outfit.
Williams released his new album G I R L last month and said he often finds his inspiration in unlikely places.
‘‘My best songs come from two different ways,’’ he reveals.‘‘Either when I have a really good gut feelling about something, it’s written in the shower or on a plane.
‘‘The water attracts your ear... You get distracted, and your mind wanders.’’
Williams will join the star-studded cast of The Voice US. The singer is the latest addition to the US show’s panel of mentors, which now includes Adam Levine, Shakira, Blake Shelton and Usher.
