Operations at Wollongong Coal's Wongawilli Mine have been hampered following a roof collapse in March, the company says.
‘‘In March the longwall mining operations at the Wongawilli Mine encountered unstable ground conditions when part of an old roadway immediately in advance of the longwall face collapsed,’’ a company spokeswoman said.
‘‘The plan prior to this collapse, was to mine through this old roadway and additional roof supports were installed to allow this to happen.
‘‘Since that time when the roadway collapsed, work has been ongoing to grout up the fallen strata so that the longwall can continue.’’
The spokeswoman said the company was working on a plan that would allow operations to return to normal as soon as practical’’.
A Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) spokesman said he wasn’t aware of any safety issues connected with the roof collapse.
