It may only be round four, but Mittagong have already entered a nomination for upset of the Illawarra Hockey first grade season with a win over Albion Park.
The Southern Highlands' club scored a memorable rearguard 3-2 victory at Welby Field last Sunday to hand the defending champions their first loss of the campaign.
A double to Park's Bede Gillard had the home side down 2-1 at the half, before Jake Isedale slammed in a brace of his own in the second stanza to secure the unlikely win.
Mittagong coach Graham Isedale was ecstatic.
"We don't have many wins so to beat anyone is good, but to beat them is even better," Isedale said.
Isedale wasn't hiding the fact his squad had to battle in Sunday's encounter.
But heading into half-time within touching distance gave them the belief they needed to get the job done.
"We were down but we had our chances. They were unlucky a fair bit but basically we were still well in that game," Isedale said. "We dug in.
In other round four matches, Wests kept themselves in outright third with a 6-4 win over Robertson.
Elliot Ashby and Abe Unicomb scored doubles, as Ben Wright scored two of his own in the losing effort.
University closed the gap on Park at the top of the first grade competition with a 10-1 rout of Dapto.
Corey Harding (three), Heath Ogilvie, Ross Shape and Jeremy Huk (all two) led the charge in the goal scoring department.
The Students now sit on level points with Park at the top with 9 points.
In the women's competition, Figtree Unanderra defeated Avondale 3-0, with goals to Tegan Gambuzza, Rachel Braun and Terrina Hartley.
Wests Illawarra against University was deferred.
Hockey will take a break for easter this weekend.
