The Library on the Lawn event will include children’s story times, an egg hunt and a book exchange.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said the event was a way to encourage people to visit the hub site.
“With council preparing to lodge a development application for the hub project, we want to give the community an idea of what visiting a library service in the city centre would be like,” Cr Saliba said.
The event will be held on Thursday from 10am to 1pm and is open to everyone.
“We’re inviting everyone to bring books that they’d like to trade in,’’ Cr Saliba said.
‘‘It’s a great opportunity to pick up some reading material for no cost, and pass on your pre-loved books for someone else to enjoy.”
The $57 million City Hub is a community and civic facility proposed for the corner of College and Cygnet avenues in the Shellharbour City Centre.
The Library on the Lawn event will be held at the College Avenue end.
As well as a city library and museum, facilities proposed for the hub include an auditorium, community meeting spaces, council chambers and administration offices.
Meantime, the council is set to receive a Library Development Grant of $200,000 from the NSW government, towards establishing the city library within the hub.
“We welcome news of this funding, which will be a major boost for the city library,” Cr Saliba said.
