Curses aside, Wolves coach Richard Lloyd knows he must get his side moving up the ladder - and he has brought in reinforcements to do it.

After five rounds, the South Coast sit bottom of the National Premier League NSW competition and despite edging closer to an elusive win, have just one competition point.

While it may be too soon for alarm bells to start ringing, the club isn't planning on letting the smoke reach the detector.

This week the Wolves welcomed back Samuel Jacob in the heart of midfield and added Japanese wide-man Hiroaki Kawasaki.

"We needed another experienced player in the midfield and already at training Sam's organisational skills have helped the younger boys out a great deal," Lloyd said.

"Aki is a wide player. We have some good players in there at the moment but we will add a bit extra to that."

If the new additions can match the impact of the Wolves' other late arrival, Darcy Madden, then the club is in for a boost.

After losing star midfielder Steve Hayes in preseason, South Coast have been searching for the catalyst to ignite their season.

But Lloyd knows they will need to find it sooner rather than later.

"When I break it down, I think I don't know if it is me being a little bit cursed," Lloyd said.

"My two marquee players both years [Chris Price in 2013] have done their knees in the first round of the competition. When that happens it sets you back a great deal and other problems come from that.

"But I am a realist, we have to get results otherwise you have to look over your shoulder."

Lloyd will look for his men to turn it around against National Premier League champions Sydney United tonight.

United have made a slower than expected start to the year.

"They have got a few experienced guys coming back as well because they were a little bit light on over the past couple of weeks," Lloyd said.

"We just need to build on what we did last week, especially that first half because we played some good football. We have been working on keeping the ball a lot this week and hopefully we can take that into the game."
