Emergency crews were called about 8.30am on Saturday after reports a boat was in distress. A 62-year old man and an 11-year-old girl, both from North Haven, were rescued by surfers. However, a 66-year old man from Bathurst died before he could be reached.
It is understood the 12-foot fishing boat they were in flipped, throwing all three, who were wearing life jackets, into the water.
A NSW Police spokeswomen told Fairfax Media that “the conditions in the water were really rough".
A spokeswoman from the Ambulance Service of NSW said the girl was treated for cuts and shock and the 62-year old man was treated for a dislocated shoulder.
She said they were taken to Port Macquarie Hospital in a stable condition.
Police investigations are continuing.
