Ms Gillen was found lying on Northcliffe Drive in Lake Heights around 1am on Sunday.
An Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District representative told the Mercury the family had requested no more information regarding Ms Gillen’s condition be released to media, but Lake Illawarra police confirmed she was still in a critical but stable condition in hospital on Monday.
Police said inquiries and investigations were still under way, and nobody had yet been taken into custody following the incident.
Ms Gillen’s sister, Kimberly, shared further information on April-Lee’s condition on Facebook over the weekend, saying she was “in ICU on life support bleeding from her brain and not breathing on her own”.
Kimberly pleaded for information about the incident online.
“She may of [sic] been abused or a hit and run between 12.30 and 1.30,” Kimberly wrote.
“Any information please let me know or if she has taken anything. Please share”.
Many took to Kimberly’s page to share support or grief over the accident.
‘‘Thinking of you and your family and friends, nothing but prayers and positive thoughts, she doesn’t deserve this, no one does,’’ one friend wrote.
‘‘Hope someone comes forward. Praying for good news,’’ said another.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
