The mercury reached 28.2 degrees at Bellambi and 27.9 at Albion Park in the mid-afternoon, making it one of the warmest days in April.
Unfortunately the last weekend of the school holidays will be a little gloomier.

Wollongong will experience top temperatures of 20 degrees on Friday, as will Albion Park. Saturday will be warmer across the region, reaching a maximum of about 25 degrees, before it cools again on Sunday with highs of about 19 degrees.
The strong surf off the Illawarra coast over the past week will also calm, with swells of between one and two metres predicted for the weekend
