As a university student I travel four days a week on the two diesel carriages that are often nearly full from Nowra/Bomaderry. With only one Opal card reader available, the idea of lining up with other passengers eager to exit the train fills me with dread.
In our current system a passenger can simply step off the train and walk out of the station without the need to line up again. For those in a rush who neglect to ‘‘tap off’’ they will be charged the full fare.
The Opal card may be ‘‘months ahead of schedule’’. However, in its current form it’s bound to frustrate commuters all queuing to tap off one single Opal reader. Bomaderry isn’t alone either.
The government needs to invest in more readers to cater for peak periods.
