Australia's best young golfers will tee off at Wollongong Golf Club and The Links Shell Cove in July for the NSW Junior Championships.
Considered one of the four majors on the junior calendar and part of the Jack Newton Junior Golf Tour, the July 1-4 championships will boast 300 outstanding players.
Wollongong and Shell Cove will host the first two rounds, before players making the cut chase the Junior boy and girl champion title at Wollongong.
The Links Shell Cove will host players who miss the cut and compete for the Championship Plate.
Illawarra has also won the contract for the 2015 NSW Junior Championships, while the profile of junior golf in the region will also be lifted with the inaugural Junior-AM tournament on Monday June 30 at The Grange Golf Club.
Entries for the junior state title have only just opened but among the top local contenders will be 16-year-old Jamie Krzyszczak from The Links Shell Cove and Stefanie Hall, who plays out of St Michaels in Sydney, but is also a junior member at Russell Vale, The Links Shell Cove and Wollongong golf clubs.
Snaring a major national junior event follows Wollongong Golf Club successfully hosting the NSW PGA tournament from 2009-2011 before the region lost the event in 2012.
The top class junior golf will also showcase some of the region's best courses according to Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh.
"It will be a fantastic week of golf on three great Illawarra courses," Sleigh said.
"The Illawarra boasts amazing golf courses with the Wollongong Golf Course providing a true ocean-front experience," he said.
The 18-hole Junior-AM, featuring three amateur players grouped with an elite junior player is an innovation for this year's state championships.
"Not only is it a great way to raise funds for junior golf in the host region but it also gives our juniors a taste of the responsibilities of an elite or professional player," Jack Newton Junior Golf CEO, Peter Van Wegen said.
