The "Legless" Inter Uni Music Society concert will see students and bands from Wollongong, UTS, Macquarie and Newcastle universities come together for a night of music at Sydney's Spectrum Hotel on May 14.
UOW music society president Broden Tadros said the event would help showcase bands from each university, and show off the talent of Wollongong musicians.
"We wanted to network between the different unis, and meet other fans and bands," he said.
"The idea is to promote all aspects of music, and promote passion for music."
Since starting in 2013, the UOW music society has hosted an acoustic band competition, a series of gigs in lounge rooms around Wollongong, and several events at clubs in the CBD.
"There's not enough of a connection on campus with all the events going on," Tadros said.
"There is a large pool of musicians and talent, and people just passionate for music, so we saw a huge hole to fill."
Ahead of the inter-uni event, a local heat has been organised at North Wollongong Hotel on Thursday night to determine the UOW representative. Local talents Kava Kings, Mark Storey, Lucha Libre, Rivet City, Faceman Bop and Sherekahn play from 6pm.
Entry is free, while the Sydney event can be accessed from facebook.com/uowmusicsociety.
