And with Comic Gong, a celebration of all things relating to comics, returning to the Town Hall on May 17 and the Reebok CrossFit Games coming to WIN Entertainment Centre from May 16 to 18, the action-packed weekend marks the start of a busy month of May.
Representatives from each of those events joined Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery and Destination Wollongong major events manager Jeremy Wilshire at Flagstaff Hill on Wednesday.
"There should be a buzz around the region in May and there's something for everyone," Mr Wilshire said.
Ride Around the Lake raises funds to combat youth homelessness and includes 10-kilometre and 40-kilometre rides.
The Swisse Color Run is a fun run in which participants are dusted with coloured powder, and is expected to attract around 10,000 participants.
Wings Over Illawarra will include aerobatics displays and is expected to draw a crowd of up to 20,000.
