After she was named player of the tournament in last year's women's World Cup in the UK, Hammond was an automatic selection in the Jillaroos team that will face the Indigenous All-Stars in the curtain-raiser to Friday's Anzac Test.
Helensburgh teammates and fellow World Cup winners Emily Andrews and Tegan Chandler were also named in the Jillaroos for a match that will give women's rugby league its due.
"It's definitely one of the biggest stadiums we've played at and definitely the most important time slot," Hammond said.
"We've never really been a genuine curtain-raiser.
"We've been told a lot of times that we'd get to be the curtain-raiser but this is the first time we actually are," she said.
"It's good to get the recognition and great to let other women see the opportunities and possibilities that exist for women in rugby league."
It will be a welcome return to the representative arena for the trio, who haven't played in national colours since they upset New Zealand in the World Cup final last year.
"It's basically formed around the nucleus of the Jillaroos [World Cup] team but there are a few new faces," Hammond said.
"It's exciting to have a few newbies in there. They'll learn from the experience of the Jillaroos and we'll probably learn a lot from them as well."
Hammond said the match against the Indigenous All-Stars, which features several former state and national teammates, promises to be a stern test for the Jillaroos.
"They've also played in tournaments and knockouts in the off-season where we haven't, so it should be a really good test for us," Hammond said.
"There's a couple from our Jillaroos team and a couple of people from our NSW State of Origin team that I've played with.
"The Young sisters - Rebecca, Julie and Emma Young - from Newcastle are a very good combination for them, so it's going to be an exciting game."
