A Wollongong road worker has added to traffic issues, instead of solving them on Tuesday morning, after his work truck ploughed into a parked car on Loftus Street.

It appeared the work ute - complete with traffic signage and witches hats in the tray - rolled backwards into a tree, hitting a parked car and parking sign around 7.40am.

There was no-one in the car at the time, and it appeared no-one was injured as a result of the crash.

Traffic logistics workers placed cordoned off the area and were forced to direct traffic while a tow truck came to take the ute away.

It was unclear what road works the group were carrying out before the accident.
