Though a good-looking guy, Dorin is not the world’s greatest lothario.

Instead, he is an artist with an unusual method.

The Corrimal-based artist will this year submit his 21st pair of painted charity jeans, as one of a select handful of Australian artists chosen to paint celebrity’s donated jeans for Jeans 4 Genes Day’s signature auction fund-raiser.

This year, he has the duds of Hollywood star Jonah Hill, but whether taking on the pants of James Belushi, Frances McDormand, Craig Lowndes or Kevin Klein, Dorin starts with the same unconventional approach.

“As soon as I get the jeans, I try them on to get a feel for the person’s size and character,” he laughed.

“Jeans are hard because of limited space, but two legs, and the pockets and seams get in the way.”

Dorin settled on the jeans of Jonah Hill, Oscar-nominated for his role in the Martin Scorcese-directed Wolf of Wall Street, after also being offered the denim of sitcom star Ray Romano.

Unable to pick between the two, Dorin left the choice to Facebook friends and his wife.

“I put it out on Facebook and asked for friends to say which ones they wanted me to paint. Then my wife made me choose Jonah,” he said.

With 21 pairs of jeans, and 2014 marking 21 years of Jeans 4 Genes, Dorin said he would likely be the most prolific contributor to the painted jeans auctions.

“It’s an absolute honour to be asked back so many times, it’s still a big buzz,” he said.

“It was a novelty in the beginning, but since having kids myself, it’s great to see and understand what the charity does.”

The jeans, along with painted pairs from a number of other celebrities, will be auctioned off at Jeans 4 Genes day gala dinner in Sydney on August 23.
