A tip off from the public sent police racing to a crime scene in Fairy Meadow in the early hours of Thursday.
Two young men had allegedly broken into a garage and were about to get away with their loot when the police car turned up.
A car chase ended when the accused found themselves at the wrong end of a dead-end street.
Police arrested one teenager in the car while a second youth, who took off on foot, was swiftly brought to ground on a front lawn.
Two small motorcycles were recovered.
Two 17-year-old youths were charged with break-and-enter.
One was given bail while the other was remanded in a juvenile detention centre.
Both will reappear in court at a later date.
