Youngsters from years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete the annual NAPLAN assessments, which examine their abilities in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation and numeracy, between Tuesday and Thursday.
St Brigid's Catholic Primary School principal Jennie Werakso said students had been taught the procedure of the assessments and what to do if they felt worried. She said NAPLAN was an opportunity for students to show what they knew, but only formed one part of the learning equation.
"The students, they're a little bit excited and a bit nervous because it's something they don't normally do, but in the larger scheme of things, it's just one piece of the puzzle and we make sure the children understand that," she said.
"It gives us a good idea about individual students and the school."
