Lincoln Piper was designer and producer of the Mercury BlueScope competition that ran from 2007 to 2011, which was won by such local favourites as Lumiere, Moroccan Holiday and Tommy M & The Mastersounds. After years trying to resurrect a similar competition, he hopes his Original LP Band Comp can once again shine a light on local talent.
"I'm looking to discover another great talent. The old competition unearthed some amazing talent," Mr Piper said.
"It was heartbreak to have that fade away. I've spent three years trying to get another one running."
Entries for the competition are now open, with heats to be held each Thursday at Woonona Bulli RSL from June 12.
A dozen bands have already put their names down to play, and he hopes up to 60 acts will eventually line up.
"There's no genre restrictions. It's based around original bands, but we'll even take cover bands with an original take on the music," Mr Piper said.
Heat winners will go through to the final on August 9, vying for $20,000 in cash and prizes.
"I want to unearth more high quality bands," Mr Piper said.
