Kiama MP Gareth Ward knows politics is all about the numbers so it was a little embarrassing when his plans to give school children in his electorate free times table posters went awry after an error was found.
Hundreds of the promotional multiplication posters will be reprinted after a mistake was found in the nine times table. The poster, which has an image of Mr Ward talking with children, showed 11 x 9 = 91.
"Well I would rather be in trouble for 11 times nine than Eight by Five," he said, referring to the infamous Liberal Party slush fund at the heart of an ICAC hearing.
"It was a printing error and the printer has apologised . . . the original times tables were produced at my own expense," he said.
