Kiama council staff said camping in the area had increased dramatically in recent times, with the council receiving numerous complaints from residents regarding noise, fires, rubbish and loss of parking spaces caused by the influx of campervans, particularly over the 2013 Christmas season.
In addition, Kiama council's cleaning staff have reported additional costs associated with litter collection and cleaning amenities.
The suggestion for a dump point was made by Kiama councillor Warren Steel at the council's February meeting, but he said he had since changed his mind.
"I didn't realise so many people would be against this ... I created a storm I assure you," Cr Steel said.
"I thought it was a good idea at the time, but if the people don't want it you have to be pragmatic."
Kiama council already offers sewage dump points at its holiday parks at Kendalls Beach, Surf Beach and Seven Mile Beach, as well as Kevin Walsh Oval at Jamberoo.
It will look into options for another site closer to Kiama but removed from the coastal zone and commercial and residential areas.
