Footage of Hugh Jackman’s original Wolverine audition is circulating online, some 15 years after it was filmed.In the 11-minute video, a youthful Jackman reenacts scenes from the first X-Men film with director Bryan Singer standing in as Anna Paquin’s Rogue.

The reading charts Wolverine’s short-tempered frustration with the young woman, right through to a tender moment between the two.

Conceptual artwork for the film’s climatic sequence can be seen behind Jackman as he does the screentest.

The jovial actor appears slightly nervous as he takes direction from Singer, ruffling his hair as he offers insights into Wolverine’s psyche.

But the strapping Australian wasn’t the first choice for the part.Scottish Dougray Scott was lined up to play the clawed superhero, but had to pull out at the last minute.Jackman was also physically unsuited for the role - in the comics, Wolverine is only 160cm tall, while he stands at 188cm.

But such concerns have paled across his seven big-screen appearances as the character, whose dry-witted and gruff persona he based on Clint Eastwood.

The video, which is now being circulated online, was first posted to YouTube in 2009.It’s been viewed more than 450,000 times.

Uma Thurman and Quentin Tarantino dating

Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino has apparently loved actress Uma Thurman ‘‘for years’’, with reports the two are now an item.

The couple, who worked together on Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill films, paired up after sharing a villa at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, sources have told US Weekly magazine.

‘‘They had a thing and got together again recently. He’s loved her for years,’’ a source said.‘‘There has always been an attraction,’’ another source said.

‘‘She has indulged from time to time, and that’s how their relationship has always worked.’’

The filmmaker and Thurman have been linked in the past, but Tarantino has denied the reports insisting their relationship is strictly platonic.

However, he has yet to comment on the latest rumours.

Thurman last month ended her engagement to French businessman Arpad Busson, with whom she shares 22-month-old daughter Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson.

Thurman, 44, was married to Ethan Hawke for six years before divorcing in 2004. They have a daughter Maya, 16, and son Levon, 12.

Tarantino has previously dated Mira Sorvino, director Sofia Coppola, and French actress Julie Dreyfus.

Brad Pitt attacker gets restraining order

Brad Pitt has reportedly slapped a temporary restraining order on the journalist who rushed at him at the red carpet premiere of Maleficent.

Ukrainian journalist Vitalii Sediuk, who has a history of harassing celebrities on the red carpet, was jailed on Wednesday for lunging at Pitt as he attended the premiere with partner Angelina Jolie.

A temporary restraining order is in place ordering Sediuk to stay 500 feet away from Pitt for the next five days, according to entertainment website TMZ.

The case has been sent to the LA City Attorney for possible prosecution, the website reported.After touching Pitt, Sediuk was wrestled away by security guards and led off in handcuffs.Pitt kept greeting fans and walked into the theatre.The journalist has a history of getting too close to celebrities.

In February, the 25-year-old Sediuk was cited for trespassing after grabbing the microphone before Adele accepted an award at the Grammys.

Last year, Will Smith slapped Sediuk after he tried to kiss him on the red carpet.Sediuk is being held in lieu of $US20,000 ($A21,600) bail and may face misdemeanour battery charges.

Katy Perry keen on Prince Harry: report

Katy Perry reportedly has a crush on Britain’s Prince Harry.

The US singer, who already wears the crown for pop princess, could be after a real shot at royalty, with friends revealing she’s reached out to Harry and invited him to hang out.

Perry has apparently extended an invitation for the prince to visit her in the US after finishing the British leg of her The Prismatic World Tour.

‘‘Katy has always had a thing for Prince Harry,’’ an insider divulged to British newspaper Daily Star.

‘‘So she decided to be cheeky and invite him to spend American Independence Day with her and friends in July.’’

The source says 29-year-old Perry was unfazed by the lack of direct contact she has with Harry, choosing instead to seek the help of someone who knows him.

‘‘The message was sent through a mutual pal, and was very casual. Katy didn’t want it to look like she was asking him on a date.‘‘But she has always had a thing for Englishmen ...’’ the friend added.

Perry had a highly publicised marriage, and then divorce, with British funnyman Russell Brand. Since the union broke down in 2011 Perry has dated singer John Meyer, and was most recently linked to DJ Diplo.

Ellie Goulding hits casino in Melb

British popstar Ellie Goulding has hit the casino after touching down in Melbourne.

The smokey-voiced singer made the journey from Perth, where she played Challenge Stadium on Wednesday night.

She posted a black and white shot of the Victorian capital’s skyline to her Instagram account after arriving on Thursday.

‘‘Good evening Melbourne *tips hat*,’’ she wrote.

A few hours later, she seemed to be enjoying some of the city’s other attractions.Glass of champagne at the ready, Goulding posted a shot of her and her manager trying their luck at the roulette table.Local fans were quick to speculate the 27-year-old was hitting the floor at Crown Casino in Southbank.
