Minor premiers Lakeside Eagles are chasing a sixth grand final spot in seven seasons and face surprise packet Collegians in Tuesday's major semi-final of Illawarra men's Premer League squash at Collegians Sporting Complex.
Eagles have won all five grand finals in a dominant run in recent years but last season were stung by claiming the wooden spoon.
"After missing out on the finals altogether last season, we are very keen to get back into the winners' circle," Eagles veteran Troy Mountford said.
"But Collegians have been very consistent this season, led by Sydney's Aaron Graeme, and a very improved local player Bernard Bauer.
"They'll be a tough opponent to conquer."
Lakeside are led by NSW No 4 Brett Hyland, who has been undefeated and only dropped one set, in the final round against top Illawarra player Paul Peters.
In Tuesday night's elimination semi-final, Dapto Greyhounds take on Dapto Bulls.
Greyhounds rely heavily on their Sydney stars who, if all available, make them a serious premiership threat.
Both semi-finals are from 7pm at Collegians Tennis and Squash Club at Figtree.
The winner of the major semi advances to the grand final on June 18 at Dapto Squash Centre. The major semi-final loser plays the winner of Bulls and Greyhounds in the preliminary final next Tuesday at Lakeside Leisure Centre.
