Rugby league, we are told by the hysterical media, is the greatest game on earth.
In 1951, France sent a rugby league team to Australia to learn the game. They defeated Australia by two tests to one and then were ordained as the fourth global superpower in league.
Some 63 years later, France is no longer regarded as such in the league world and there are only three ‘‘superpowers’’ left.
Progress in that time includes massive increases in player and selected officials’ remunerations, admission, food and drink prices and constant rule changes.
With all the absurd controversies and reduced playing time for some players who appear to tire from carrying their tattoos around, where is the progress in 63 years?
