I refute the claims made by federal member for Throsby Stephen Jones, which are completely wrong.
All projects funded under the Black Spot Program are selected through a completely independent process run by Black Spot Consultative Panels in each state and territory.
The panels are made up from community groups and associations, road-user groups, senior police officials, industry, local government, and state road and transport agencies.
Each consultative panel considers nominations for road safety projects against the eligibility criteria and makes recommendations to the Australian government about the allocation of funding.
This is the same selection process used by Labor during their time in government.
