On Thursday, the singers will begin their 17th National Tour and 14-year-old Rebecca Adams, from Thirroul, will join them.

Rebecca was one of eight girls selected from NSW to join the choir (AGC) and is the only choir member from the Illawarra.

She said she was looking forward to meeting the other 54 girls from across Australia she will be performing with.

"That's what it's all about: getting together and making friends with people who love doing the same things you love," she said.

The girls, aged between 10 and 17, will complete a three-day intensive music school in Hobart before touring Australia for two weeks. They will perform across the nation, from the Port Arthur Historic Site to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

After weekly visits to Sydney for singing practice, the Illawarra Grammar School student said the hard work had been worth it.

"I'm pretty excited," she said. "All my effort is paying off."

This is Rebecca's second year in the AGC, and her mother said her quick progression to the performance level came down to natural talent.

"As a toddler, she was always singing ... It's her love," she said.

"We're just happy she's joined such a supportive organisation."

Founded in 1984 with 150 girls, the AGC is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, now with 4500 girls training across five states.

The choir is well-known for its involvement alongside the National Boys Choir in the Qantas I Still Call Australia Home advertising campaign.

Rebecca, who is in the penultimate level of the choir, hopes to audition at the end of the year and to progress to the final level for the chance to perform regularly.

"I just find that it's an amazing experience to do what you love," she said.
