It might be the mid-year recess at the University of Wollongong, but the campus was a hive of activity on Saturday as the second annual Humans vs Zombies fundraiser took over the grounds.
Humans battled the blood-spattered, grey-skinned and gruesome “zombies” with toy foam guns all day, with more than 90 people turning out. The day, organised by the UOW Rotaract Club, was raising funds for Rotary’s End Polio Now initiative.
“It’s a giant game of tag, but with Nerf guns,” said event organiser Aidan Simmons.
“”It’s a great excuse to bring out your inner kid.”
The Humans vs Zombies concept originated on American college campuses in 2005, and has since spread to more than 1000 locations worldwide. The inaugural UOW event last year caused chaotic scenes at the university with costumed monsters and humans battling all day, and Mr Simmons said Saturday’s event was just as successful.
“It has become something that has really captured the public’s imagination,” he said.
Organisers hope to raise $1500 to benefit Rotary.
