While the Illawarra has been shivering through a cold snap over the past week, Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe said the region had enjoyed a relatively mild June with temperatures slightly above the long-term average.

It has also been drier than usual with only 42 millimetres of rain recorded at Bellambi Point compared with the long-term June average of 121 millimetres.
Mr Sharpe said the Illawarra's weather for 2014 so far could best be summed up as "mild".
"The summer months, January and February, were cooler than average but since then temperatures have been slightly above average," he said.
Looking ahead, he said the Illawarra could expect to enjoy sunny conditions until Friday, with warm days and cold nights.
Thursday is forecast to bring the coldest night of the year so far with the mercury dropping to 9 degrees at Bellambi Point and even cooler temperatures - and possibly a light frost - further inland.
