Called a "value management workshop", Kiama MP Gareth Ward said it is part of the $1 million the government allocated to planning for the bypass.
"Last year, a road corridor review confirmed the future extension of the M1 Princes Motorway to provide a bypass of Albion Park Rail between Yallah and Oak Flats as being suitable," Mr Ward said.
"The two-day value management workshop will bring together Roads and Maritime project staff, technical specialists, representatives from Shellharbour and Wollongong city councils and two community representatives."
Participants will use technical studies and community feedback to assess the design options and the outcome will form part of the eventual concept design.
People can apply by filling in the form found on rms.nsw.gov.au/roadprojects/apr and applications close on July 16.
Landowners, residents and businesses directly affected by the road corridor will not be considered.
These stakeholders are being consulted separately.
