Bracelets, charms, miniature Mickey Mouses, scenes from MasterChef and The Hunger Games and even a collection of Disney princesses were just some of the intricate displays students entered into a loom band exhibition and competition at the school, organised by assistant principal Mark McGuire.
He said he had been hugely impressed by the students’ talents with the craft.
‘‘I was blown away, I felt like I had to curate a huge exhibition,’’ he laughed.
While the brightly coloured plastic loops have been banned at many NSW primary schools, Mr McGuire said encouraging students to share their skills and equipment with one another had prevented any problems arising from the craze.
‘‘Groups of kids at lunch would sit down sharing looms, ideas and helping each other,’’ he said.
Year 6 student and vice-captain Thomas Brinton, 11, said the bands were so popular because they were relatively cheap, easy to share and fun to experiment with.
‘‘We can share them and make them for other people,’’ he said.
