The Mercury moved in April after a decade at its Auburn Street location.
General manager Corinne Whiteman said the new space was open and modern, but its biggest advantage was that it allowed the 90-strong editorial and commercial team to work together more effectively.
‘‘How we were set up previously saw our editorial team on one floor and our commercial team on another. There is a great vibe now with all our staff working in one space,’’ she said.
Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery also addressed the crowd, which included MPs Sharon Bird, Stephen Jones and Anna Watson, Dragons CEO Peter Doust, IRT CEO Nieves Murray, Hawks general manager Greg Binskin and Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh.
Cr Bradbery said it was important the Mercury continued to advocate for the Illawarra.
The Mercury is now located at Level 4, 77 Market Street (the ahm building).
