Kangaroo stew, paella, salmon cakes and a seafood noodle dish were on the menu at Friday's Koori Cook-Off at Windang.

The culinary competition was part of a family day to mark NAIDOC Week, held every July to celebrate the history and culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Teams of four worked quickly to dish up their creations into bite-sized portions to be judged by community elders.

Di Knight, the general manager of service delivery at Illawarra Shoalhaven Medicare Local, said she had received only positive feedback about the event, which was organised by ISML, the Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service and the Heart Foundation.
