Emergency services were called to the popular hangliding spot around 1.50pm on Sunday after reports a paraglider had crashed.
‘‘He’d been out paragliding and he had turned back towards the hill and he has come in too fast and too low and he has hit the side of the embankment around eight or nine metres below the proper landing site,’’ Ambulance Service of NSW district inspector Norm Rees said.
The man hit the ground with his head, splitting his helmet and causing significant head injuries.
An ambulance special operations team, in conjunction with Police and Rural Fire Service, used a hauling system to pull the man to safety.
He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital.
