School zones are back in force with most Illawarra students returning to school on Tuesday to begin term 3.

Drivers are required to slow down to 40 km/h around primary and high schools  between 8am to 9.30am and from 2.30pm to 4pm on week days.

NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith said parents dropping their children at school should look out for buses, park only in designated areas and avoid doing u-turns or three-point turns around schools.

Children should exit cars on the kerb side to ensure they get to school safely.
