A beautifully restored 1948 FX Holden was the centrepiece of 1950s rock‘n’roll celebrations at Farmborough Aged Care Centre, Unanderra.
The classic car was part of the UnitingCare Ageing centre’s 50s rock‘n’roll week, from June 30 to July 4.
One of the communal rooms in the facility was transformed into a retro drop-in diner, complete with jukebox, chequered floor and 1950s memorabilia.
Several residents helped hand sew and stitch skirts, revisiting old skills in the process. Many of the men wore black T-shirts and leather jackets.
The event took months of planning and proved to be a huge hit with residents, according to Farmborough Aged Care Centre service manager Jill Harvey.
“We had residents from our memory support unit singing along, dancing and making their drinks in the diner,” Ms Harvey said.
“Some residents who don’t regularly participate, pushed away their wheelchairs and danced with staff – it was magical.”
