The Wild Rumpus collective of artistic skill workshops have expanded their once-small suitcase markets into the weekend’s huge event at Anita’s, with more than 40 artists, craftmakers and producers setting up shop inside the classic theatre space.
Candles, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, homewares and more were on show from local designers and artisans, while in the venue forecourt, a host of food stalls kept shoppers fed and watered with French crepes, Ethiopian cuisine and a selection of tasty treats.
Organiser Lizzie Rose had been hoping for attendance of 800, and estimates placed at least that number inside the main hall at the day’s midpoint.
‘‘We hope we can help support local artists and turn their work into viable businesses,’’ Ms Rose said.
‘‘We wanted it to be more like a community event than a market.’’
Attendees were able to browse stalls, have a bite to eat, and participate in pop-up demonstrations and skills workshops to learn how to make lip balm or face cream, lino prints, or pan pastel paintings.
‘‘We hand-curated this event, and have some amazing makers here,’’ Ms Rose said.
She said the next Maker’s Market would be held later this year.
