Scott William Payne pleaded guilty to knowingly taking the man's money and using it to play the pokies at Wests Illawarra Leagues Club.
On Monday, Port Kembla Local Court heard Payne had been barred from the Wests Illawarra Club in 2011, but that didn't stop the 28-year-old from entering the club on January 18 and sitting down to play the machines.
The victim, who had also been playing the pokies, finished his game and moved to place his winnings onto his membership card.
Believing he'd done so, he left the club.
However, the court heard the man's winnings, amounting to $310, had not been transferred to the card, and instead remained active on the machine.
Payne approached the machine a few minutes later and transferred the winnings onto his own guest membership card. He then used the proceeds to play several machines in the club.
When the matter was later reported to police, officers obtained CCTV footage from the club and identified Payne as the culprit.
Club representatives confirmed Payne was banned from entering the premises, however new staff working that day had been unaware of this and allowed him in.
Payne also pleaded guilty to entering the Berkeley Hotel, despite being banned, and stealing $30 from a handbag at the Illawarra Yacht Club on July 1.
He was jailed for a total of six months on all charges.
