While Malceski is far from unhappy at the Swans and may well re-sign with the club, the 29-year-old wants to consider all options before deciding where he wants to play in 2015 and beyond.

The half-back has had interest from at least four clubs in Melbourne and Perth, where Malceski's wife is from, however his management has not yet fielded any offers from the Demons, where his former boss, Paul Roos, now coaches.

While Malceski's manager had begun discussing a new deal with Sydney and received an offer, it is understood those talks only began recently given the club was waiting on the AFL's decision on how the cost of living allowance would be re-structured.

Malceski has played some of the best football of his 10-year career this season and despite early problems with his knees has barely missed a game in the past three years, playing more than the last 50 in a row.

He signed a one-year contract extension early midway through last season.

Malceski's manager, Ben Niall, said the decision to halt negotiations was simply about giving him and his family time to consider an important decision.

"We've told the club we want to wait until the end of the season. Nick's focus is on his footy and helping the Swans win a premiership, and the finals aren't far away," he said.

"It's a massive decision. It's the last really big decision Nick's going to make in his career and we want to use the time we have to look at all the options and make the best decision we can for him and his family.

"He's not disgruntled, he just wants to take his time, look at everything that's available to him and make a considered decision."
