While it has seemed a long wait for students eager to check out and use their new gymnasium and renovated classrooms, planning for the $11 million project actually began four years ago.
Principal Frank Pitt said the buildings, which include the gym, a sports science area, canteen, toilet block and new open-plan learning spaces, would provide enough space for the 1140-strong school population.
"The space here has always been a problem for us and we want to maximise the opportunities we provide for the girls in the college," he said.
He said creating open-learning spaces was a priority to give students the resources to explore project-based learning and create room for teachers to work with larger groups.
"Contemporary education is moving towards providing students with flexible spaces and we've been talking about it a bit but haven't had the space to put the theory in practice.
"We wanted to provide a flexible learning space that's technologically rich and allows the girls to explore a different way of learning."
The buildings will be opened by NSW Governor Marie Bashir, who is patron of newly created house Bashir at the school.
Dr Pitt said while he was delighted to have dignitaries taking part in the grand opening, providing new facilities for the students was more important.
