The 2014 BlueScope WIN Wollongong Eisteddfod concludes on Saturday with a Showcase Of Talent, featuring a variety of performances presented by a selection of competitors from the eisteddfod.
The showcase will include music, singing, drama and dance performances at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre from 2pm.
One of the dance groups chosen to perform is the Vanessa Lee Dance Academy entertainment troupe, which comprises about 60 children.
The Dapto-based troupe took out first place at the eisteddfod in the open age entertainment dance troupe section, for its performance of a routine to The Addams Family theme choreographed by studio owner Vanessa Corrie.
As well as dancing to the catchy tune, the students have created a strong visual aesthetic with spooky make-up, costumes and hairstyles, and props.
The Broadway musical theatre style of dancing features zombies, Morticias and Wednesdays; with the main characters performed by Victoria Nourie (Morticia), Mikhail Atkins (Gomez), Tegen Groom (Grandma), Cory Murrell (Uncle Fester), Ryan Collins (Pugsley), Charlee Corrie (Wednesday) and Neil Chapman (Lurch).
Ms Corrie said she planned to enter the troupe in the Showcase national dance championships.
She said the students were very excited about performing their dance at the eisteddfod’s Showcase of Talent.
‘‘The kids really enjoy the performing and the acting in this dance,’’ Ms Corrie said.
‘‘They’ve got to really use their acting skills, as well as dancing, and it’s just so much for them and the audience.’’
Tickets $20 are still available for showcase here.
