The aged-care and senior-living provider won an ABA100 Employer of Choice gong for developing the full potential of its 2044-strong workforce through effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.

Chief executive Nieves Murray said it followed extensive efforts by IRT to promote a culture of excellence through its commitment to performance and effective communication.

That effort had been increased during the past year and would continue, with the IRT team being involved in decisions about the future of the organisation.

Ms Murray said what IRT had created was an environment where everyone could develop career pathways.

Last year, employees completed 508 short courses through IRT's own registered training organisation, IRT College.

IRT also sends out a weekly newsletter to every employee, detailing what has been going on, what is changing and what is in store.

Ms Murray said that had helped staff to stay connected and interested in what they were doing.

She said the award also recognised the IRT's commitment to employee health, safety and satisfaction.

Not only was it the fifth year in a row IRT had claimed an Australian Business Award, it was its 11th since 2010.

Australian Business Awards are a national awards program that recognises business, innovation and technology leaders among leading corporate, government and non-government organisations.

The awards are designed to provide regional recognition with global significance.
