Greg Dodd, of SalePlate and Dodd Accountants in Market Street, said the app was designed for those tired of getting parking tickets.

He said it was an unfortunate part of life for people living in cities with growing populations like Wollongong.

About a month ago, he thought about his clients who sometimes got caught with a parking ticket when they came to his practice.

"I realised a reminder system was the best way to prevent that and within two weeks had come up with a solution," Mr Dodd said.

And the reaction from those already using it has been great.

Mr Dodd said there were several parking apps available for users to pin their car's location on a map or set a meter time alert.

But his system had a new feature that actually tracked the rangers writing parking tickets.

The Parking Cop Cop app allows users to report sightings of a meter maid or parking inspector in a specific area and automatically sends a warning to other users with cars in that area to check their time and try to beat a ticket.

Mr Dodd said the more people who used it, the better the app would work.

He said that when there were enough users reporting sightings in an area, the parking inspector's trajectory could be predicted and tracked over time.

And the best thing is the Parking Cop Cop app can be accessed for the price of a cup of coffee.

"Anyone who has gotten a parking ticket knows this app will pay for itself with one save," he said.

"Now you can help your fellow drivers and create a better parking experience for your city."

Mr Dodd's business has been developing apps for a couple of years.

The first major app he developed provided businesses a new way to market their daily deals.

That mobile social marketing app was called SalePlate.

It allowed businesses of all sizes to use a customer's mobile phone and location to drive sales.

Mr Dodd realised people had their mobile phone on them constantly and this was one way to take advantage of such a great opportunity to market to them.

"The customer can find their business on a map within a five-kilometre radius," he said.

"They simply put in their location and they can then see the deals around them."
